AGRI Min Discusses Collaboration with President of U.S. EXIM Bank

January 13 2025- Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha recently held discussions with Ms. Reta Jo Lewis, President and Chairperson of the United States Export-Import Bank (EXIM), at the Ministry of Agriculture.
The meeting explored opportunities for collaboration aimed at boosting production and diversification within Guyana’s agriculture sector.
Ms. Lewis was joined by a high-level delegation that included U.S. Ambassador to Guyana Nicole D. Theriot, Hazeen Ashby, Deputy Chief of Staff and White House Liaison; Ufo Eric Atuanya, and Acting Senior Vice President of the Office of Global Development.
Minister Mustapha emphasized that despite its emergence as an oil and gas producer, Guyana remains firmly positioned as a regional food hub.
He highlighted the country’s leadership in advancing the agriculture agenda within CARICOM and noted significant investments over the past four years to develop new industries, contributing to Guyana’s economic growth and diversification.
In addition to discussing agricultural advancements, the meeting underscored the importance of EXIM Bank’s role in supporting Guyana’s developmental goals. Notably, the bank recently approved a US$527 million loan to fund the Gas-to-Shore project, a transformative initiative for the nation’s energy and economic sectors.
The discussions between Minister Mustapha and Ms. Lewis reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening ties between Guyana and the United States in advancing agricultural and economic development.
