Agri ministry slams ‘false’ claims on Crabwood Creek facility

The Ministry of Agriculture has strongly rejected claims circulating on social media regarding the Crabwood Creek Solar Dryer and Agro-processing Facility, describing the allegations as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry condemned a video shared by the opposition APNU which alleged that the facility cost $200 million, asserting that the claim is inaccurate and represents a serious distortion of the facts surrounding the project aimed at supporting farmers and agro-processors in the Upper Corentyne community.

See full statement here:

“𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢. 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐫𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐨-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

The Ministry of Agriculture firmly condemns the blatantly false and reckless claims circulated in a recent social media video by the APNU regarding the Crabwood Creek Solar Dryer and Agro-processing Facility.

The statements made in that video are completely misleading and appear to be a deliberate attempt to deceive the public. Contrary to the false claim that the facility cost $200 million, the Crabwood Creek Solar Dryer and Agro-processing Facility was constructed and fully equipped at a total cost of $56,264,458. The figure peddled by APNU is not only inaccurate but represents a gross distortion of the facts intended to mislead citizens and manufacture controversy where none exists.

It is deeply irresponsible for any political party to knowingly circulate misinformation about a facility that was established to directly support farmers and agro-processors in Crabwood Creek or any other community in this country. Such behaviour reflects a troubling pattern by the APNU of attempting to undermine development initiatives through sensationalism, half-truths, and outright fabrications.

The facts are straightforward. The facility was completed at the end of 2025 and will become operational before the end of March 2026. This, like other agro-processing facilities constructed across the country, will serve farmers and agro-processors in Crabwood Creek and surrounding communities by providing critical support for solar drying and agro-processing, helping to reduce post-harvest losses and expand opportunities for value-added production.

Rather than acknowledge tangible progress being made in rural communities, APNU has chosen to engage in political mischief by spreading misinformation designed to erode public confidence in initiatives that are delivering real benefits to farmers.

The Government of Guyana remains focused on advancing agriculture, strengthening agro-processing, and ensuring that farmers across the country have access to the facilities and support needed to increase production and income. No amount of political distortion will change the facts on the ground.

The Ministry of Agriculture urges the public to treat such claims from APNU with the skepticism they deserve and to rely instead on verified information. Development cannot be derailed by those who prefer political noise over facts and progress.”
