A taxi driver who assaulted a traffic rank while he was executing his duties was on Thursday slapped with an assault and provoking a breach of peace charges. 30-year-old Tramaine Ross appeared before Her Worship Wanda Fortune in the Linden Magistrate’s Court and admitted to the offences.

The first charge stated that on December 2, 2020, at Republic Avenue, he unlawfully assaulted Police Corporal Nicholas Ingram – a peace officer. The second charge stated that on the same day, at the same location, he provoked a breach of peace of Police Corporal Nicholas Ingram.

He was fined $20,000 for the assault of a peace officer and $10,000 for the provoked breach of peace. The court heard that the Police Corporal was performing traffic duties on Republic Avenue on the day in question when he saw Ross approaching him with a heavily tinted motorcar bearing the registration number PXX 962.

As a result, Ingram stopped him and inquired if he had a tint permit, and asked him to produce his driver’s license.

The court heard that Ross produced his driver’s license only and afterward came out of his car, and he told the corporal he is a “jackass” and allegedly shoved him in his head.
