A 20-year-old labourer has now found himself in hot water after he admitted to owning and being in possession of an illegal firearm and matching rounds of ammo without being licensed to carry same.

On Sunday, Police acting on information received of threats, went to Durban and Cross Streets, Werk-en-Rust where they observed the young man running into an apartment.

The Police gave chase and caught up with him where a search was conducted on him and the apartment he ran into, no one else was present in the building at the time.

Lawmen found one .32 Taurus Millennium Pistol, number filled off along with a magazine containing four (4) live .32 ammunition. He was taken into custody and will have his day in court soon.

Meanwhile, on Saturday at about 17:00 hrs, two police constables who were on a motorcycle patrol on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, heard an explosion suspected to be a gunshot sound from coming from Penny Lane.

As a result, they diverted and while heading through the street, observed a silver-grey fielder wagon motor car parked.

A young man came out of the vehicle with what appears to be a handgun that he forced into the crotch of his pants.

Shortly after another ‘unidentifiable’ male came out of the left side rear door of the said vehicle.

Upon seeing the uniformed ranks, the car drove away while the men ran into a nearby yard.

The ranks gave chase, but the men then jumped a concrete fence and continued to run west and made good of their escape.

One of the suspects dropped the firearm in a small pool of water. It was altered found to be a Glock 17 pistol with a magazine containing four live 9MM ammunition.

The firearm and ammunition were taken to East LaPenitence Police Station, where it was marked sealed and lodged to be taken to the ballistic section for examination. The two suspects were not arrested, but investigations are ongoing.
