The youth who was found bound and murdered under the Takatu Bridge is believed to be 17-year-old Geraldson Joseph.

He was originally from Quatatas Village, North Rupununi, but was residing in Bon Fim, Brazil. He was said to be unemployed.

His sister, Loriana Joseph, told police she identified the body from a Facebook photograph of the victim.

“Arrangements were made for her to view the body at the mortuary at 07.00 hrs today,”  police said.

The sister said she last saw Geraldson alive last month during a rodeo event.

She told the police she is unaware of any issues he may have had with anyone.

The teen’s body was found at around 16.00 hrs on Wednesday, May 10, under the Takatu River Bridge that links Lethem in Region Nine to Brazil.

The victim was in a sitting position, and his limbs were bound with a length of multi-coloured rope. A length of cloth, suspected to be his underwear, was tied around his neck. Marks of violence were seen on his neck and right knee of the victim, who was dressed in a long-sleeved black shirt and black underwear.

The body is at the Lethem Regional Hospital awaiting a postmortem.
