PAC meeting off to a fiery start

The Public Accounts Committee got off to a fiery start on Monday morning when the government members accused Chairman of the PAC David Patterson of being “capricious”.
That statement came from PAC member Juan Edghill who accused the Chairman of being capricious when Patterson denied a motion to end today’s meeting at 12:30 to facilitate a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations.
PAC member Gail Teixeira who had asked for the motion to be tabled explained this is to facilitate the availability of an appropriate venue to hold the meeting. That venue is suppose to be in the Chambers of Public Building where the PAC is currently meeting. The Foreign Relations Committee meeting is expected to be briefed on Venezuela’s recent decree.
As the members of the PAC traded barbs across the floor, Edghill demanded that Patterson show on “what authority” he has not placed the motion on the floor, “you have no grounds” Edghill shouted.
PAC Member Jermaine Figueria told the meeting that “no one is refuting the importance” of the issue to be table before the Foreign Relations Committee, “the availability of a venue should not handicap the holding of the PAC” he said.
Patterson did not respond to the government members call to show what grounds he was refusing the motion.
The committee continued to meet to discuss administrative issues and will examine the remaining agencies from the 2016 Auditor General report.
