A 39-year-old taxi driver was on Tuesday evening robbed of his motorcar by two unidentifiable males.

Bhagwandin Narine was robbed of his White Toyota Spacio valued at $1.3, and local currency totaled $1,471,000, $10,000 cash, a yellow metal wedding band valued at $75,000, a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued at $86,000.

A police press statement indicated that that Narine operates from a taxi base at New Road Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.

Reports are that at about 20:30 hours, he was sent to pick up passengers opposite the West Demerara Regional Hospital. He ventured off to the location with his motor car PNN 2814.

On arrival, he picked up two unidentifiable male, both of whom had their faces covered with a black mask from their noses downwards, police said.

According to the police, one of the suspects asked Narine the price to go to La Parfaite Harmonie, which the driver provided.

“One of the suspects then entered the front passenger seat and the other in the back passenger seat behind the driver. As the victim reached the Policeman corner, one of the suspects then told the victim to stop at a heap of white sand, and he complied,” police said.

The suspect behind Narine reportedly placed a black handgun to his head and told him to stay quiet, and he complied.

The suspect in the front passenger seat then exited the car and pointed a black handgun at the driver’s abdomen and told him if he made a noise he would die.

The suspects then searched the victim and relieved him of his valuables, and made good their escape in a western direction. Investigations are ongoing.
