PPP supporters reject APNU+AFC presence in Enterprise

The police were forced to exercise extra vigilance in the community of Enterprise New Scheme, East Coast Demerara this evening when the A Partnership For National Unity + Alliance Force Change (APNU+AFC) converge there to host a political meeting.
Speakers at the meeting were interrupted by pockets of supporters of the PPP who gathered at the side-lines of the meeting openly pledging their support and allegiance to the Peoples Progressive Party Civic while waving their party flags.
The move caused the technical person operating the PA System at the community meeting to raise the volume while the various speakers were also required to raise their voices in an effort to drown out the chants coming from the PPP Supporters.
The police who maintained a presence at the meeting were forced to get closer as the crowd of villagers began to increase. This also saw supporters of the APNU+AFC whipping out their party flags and waving them while dancing as a countermeasure.
When the meeting concluded, the supporters of both parties were seen waving their respective flags in the faces of each other as the police sought to keep each side at bay.
Guyana is preparing to head into what is being termed the mother of all elections even as political parties contesting the poll, make their respective cases as to why they should be given a chance to lead the country especially as it joins a number of countries around the world as a petroleum state.
The Ethnic Relations Commission and has been calling for political parties and their supporters to ensure that the rights of every citizen are respected including their right of choice to support the political party they wish and to guard against provoking and agitating each other.
Several weeks ago, supporters of the APNU+AFC in Laing Avenue, blocked the path of a canter truck that was being used to by persons who were advocating for others to support the Peoples Progressive Party Civic at the upcoming polls. Laing Avenue is perceived to be a stronghold of the APNU+AFC.
The development did see Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan, the Prime Ministerial Candidate for the incumbent APNU+AFC government denouncing the development in Laing Avenue while stating that such actions could see the APNU+AFC suffering the same fate when they enter communities which are perceived to be strongholds of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic.
