23 Guyanese graduate from Eugene Dupuch Law School in Bahamas

Twenty-three Guyanese students have graduated from the Eugene Dupuch Law School (EDLS) in The Bahamas, with several earning top academic and clinical awards.

The graduates were among the Class of 2026, which received the Legal Education Certificate (LEC) during a Presentation of Graduates Ceremony held on Saturday, September 19, at the Margaritaville Beach Resort in Nassau.

The Guyanese contingent recorded several notable achievements, with six students receiving awards for outstanding academic performance, clinical legal education and excellence in specific areas of study.

Shania Eastman was among the top awardees, receiving the Council’s Prize for the Most Outstanding Year 2 Student and the Council’s Prize for the Most Improved Year 2 Student. She also received the Chairman’s Prize for the Best Performing Student in Law of Evidence, Remedies, and Civil Procedure and Practice I and II, as well as the Davis & Co. Prize for the Best Performing Student in Civil Procedure and Practice II.

Travis Cush received the Council’s Prize for the Most Outstanding Student in the Legal Aid Clinic and the Callenders & Co. Save The Bays Environmental Law Clinic Prize for outstanding performance and contribution to the Environmental Law Clinic.

Elton Bollers received the Joseph B. Lewis Prize for the Best Performing Male Student in Year 2 and the HLB ACME Advisers Prize for the Best Performing Student in Law Office Management, Accounting and Technology.

Earl Cornelius also received the HLB ACME Advisers Prize for the Best Performing Student in Law Office Management, Accounting and Technology.

Rennata Nikram was awarded the Colin E. Callender, Q.C. Memorial Prize for outstanding performance and contribution to the Commercial and Financial Services Law Clinic.

Yashobu Parks received the Honourable Mr. Justice Emmanuel Osadebay Prize for the Best Performing Student in the Law of Remedies, Ethics, Rights and Obligations of the Legal Profession, and Civil Procedure and Practice I.

The graduation marks an important step in the professional development of the 23 Guyanese students, who have completed the professional stage of legal education required for eligible graduates seeking admission to practise law in Guyana.

Following completion of the programme and satisfaction of the applicable admission requirements, the graduates will proceed through the process of admission to the Guyana Bar.

The strong performance of the Guyanese cohort, particularly the students who earned awards for academic and clinical excellence, highlights their achievements after completing their legal studies at the regional institution.
