Three men have been charged and remanded to prison in connection with an alleged attempted robbery under arms at Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.

The accused are 22-year-old unemployed man Yohance Carroll of Tucville Squatting Area; 23-year-old labourer Earl Grant of Tucville; and 23-year-old security guard Adrian Greenidge of Cane View Squatting Area, Georgetown.

The trio was jointly charged with Attempt to Commit a Felony, namely Robbery Under Arms, contrary to Section 36 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

Grant and Greenidge were also separately charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.

The three appeared on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court #2 before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan. They were not required to enter pleas to the indictable charges and were remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to October 9, 2026.

The charges stem from an alleged attempted robbery at the home of a 42-year-old Director of Projects at the Central Housing and Planning Authority on August 28.

Police said the victim, after checking his security cameras, observed four masked men entering his yard and attempting to gain entry through a western door. He contacted police, who subsequently intercepted three suspects at Fisher Dam, Zeelugt.

Police reported recovering two suspected firearms, each with three matching rounds of ammunition. One firearm was allegedly found in a haversack worn by one suspect, while the other was reportedly found concealed on another suspect.

The suspected firearms and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged at the Leonora Police Station.

Investigators also revisited the scene and extracted footage from several CCTV cameras in the area for processing.

The three men remain in custody as investigations continue.
