E’bo farmers to benefit from flood relief today; 78% more to benefit on revised list.

Farmers on the Essequibo Coast who were affected by floods earlier this year, will benefit from their cash grant today, Friday. The initiative comes almost two months after it was postponed in August last.

We were told that the cash grant exercise was postponed last August, over concerns that some persons were missed during the registration period.

The distribution exercise which was slated for last August, catered for some 736 farmers. Today’s exercise will benefit some 1312 farmers.

We understand farmers within the Pomeroon had already received their cash grants during the recent cabinet outreach to Region Two just last month. Today’s distribution, however, will benefit farmers living in communities throughout the Essequibo Coast and areas in the Supenaam Creek.

Reports are that the first distribution will be conducted at the Anna Regina Town Council and will be done by the Minister of Finance, Ashni Singh, along with the Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha. The Pomeroon/Supenaam region is predominantly an agriculture-based region. It is anticipated that the cash grant initiative will address some repercussions that stemmed from the recent floods.
