A total of 2,271 rice farmers in Regions Five and Six have been verified to receive assistance under the Government’s recently announced rice farmer support programme.

Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha met on Tuesday with members of the rice cultivation verification committees from the two regions to review findings from field visits and verification exercises aimed at identifying eligible beneficiaries.

Committee members provided updates on the verification process and presented the results of their assessments, which were undertaken to ensure that all qualifying farmers are accurately identified for the distribution of assistance.

According to the reports, 1,387 farmers in Region Five and 884 farmers in Region Six have been verified and are set to benefit from the initiative.

During the meeting, Minister Mustapha underscored the importance of maintaining accuracy and transparency throughout the verification exercise, noting that the Government remains committed to ensuring that assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries and that the integrity of the process is upheld.

The assistance programme was announced by President Dr. Irfaan Ali as a targeted measure to support rice farmers across Guyana. Under the initiative, farmers cultivating 50 acres or less will receive $15,000 per acre, while those cultivating more than 50 acres will receive $10,000 per acre.
