Plaisance, Melanie win titles at Commander’s Cup

Plaisance United and Melanie Football Club claimed the under-13 and under-17 titles respectively at the annual Commander’s Cup Youth Football competition hosted by hosted by Regional Division 4 ‘C’ in collaboration with the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) recently.
This year’s competition was undoubtedly bigger, better, and more competitive, attracting a total of twenty- six (26) teams, which included Police Youth Groups and Affiliated Football Clubs from communities across the East Coast Demerara in the Under 13 and Under 17 Categories.
Plaisance topped Golden Grove Stars in the finale of the under-13 category while Melanie finished in third. Joshuan Connell was named the most valuable player of the under-13 category in addition to the best goal keeper. Shaquille Callender was the highest goal scorer in the youth category.
Meanwhile, Melanie Football Club defeated BV/Triumph United in the under-17 category while Buxton United claimed the third place finish. Keena Petrie was the most valuable player of the under-17 category with Jermain Cox being named best goalkeeper. Trevon Glasgow was the highest goal scorer of the junior category.

Regional Commander Regional Division 4 ‘C’ Assistant Commissioner K Pareshram, extended heartfelt congratulations to all participating teams, coaches, and players for their outstanding performances and commendable sportsmanship displayed during the tournament.
Special thanks and appreciation were also extended to the sponsors whose generous support contributed significantly to the success of this year’s competition. Regional Division 4 ‘C’ also expressed sincere appreciation to the members of the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA), other organizers, club officials, volunteers, supporters, and members of the public, who played a vital role in making the Commander’s Cup Football Competition 2026 a memorable and successful event.
As the curtains close on another successful edition of the Annual Commander’s Cup, the Division looks forward to an even greater competition next year as efforts continue to empower youths and strengthen communities through sports.
