Three others wanted in AK-47 probe

Police have issued wanted bulletins for three additional men in connection with the major discovery of ten AK-47 rifles during an intelligence-led operation in Berbice.

The wanted men have been identified as Antonio Alonzo Lawrie, called “Lanzo,” with addresses listed at Farm Village, East Bank Demerara, and Lot 72 Grant 1805, Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice; Ryan Singh, called “Satan,” of Parika Outfall Seadam, East Bank Essequibo; and Gregory Anthony Persaud of 15 Area “G” Ogle, East Coast Demerara, and Farm Village, East Coast Demerara.

The development comes as a 33-year-old taxi driver from Goed Fortuin remains on remand in connection with the same firearm find.

Stephen Rajah, of Back Street, Goed Fortuin Village, appeared on Thursday before the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court where a possession of firearm charge was read to him. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison after bail was refused. The matter was adjourned to June 15, 2026.

The charge stems from a major police operation along the Corentyne corridor on Friday, May 22, during which ten AK-47 rifles were recovered.

According to police, ranks were conducting a stop-and-search exercise along the Berbice River Bridge Access Road between 1:00am and 4:30am when a black Toyota Fielder Wagon allegedly sped away from a checkpoint and evaded interception along the Corentyne roadway.

Acting on intelligence, officers later searched the No. 11 Village area, Corentyne, where the weapons were discovered wrapped in plastic and cloth. The rifles reportedly bore markings consistent with 7.62x39mm weapons, with indications that serial numbers may have been tampered with.

Investigators said Rajah was later intercepted at Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, while still in the vehicle of interest and taken into custody. A white Toyota Runx, believed to be linked to the movement of the firearms, was also found abandoned at Savannah Park, New Amsterdam.

Police say investigations are continuing into the origin and intended destination of the weapons, while efforts are ongoing to locate the three wanted men.
