The United States military has seized a sanctioned oil tanker accused of transporting Iranian crude, marking a significant escalation in ongoing maritime enforcement operations tied to Washington’s sanctions regime.
According to U.S. defense officials, the vessel identified as the Majestic X, a tanker previously sanctioned in 2024 was intercepted in international waters in the Indian Ocean.
The ship, reportedly sailing under a Guyanese flag without authorization, was suspected of carrying Iranian oil in violation of U.S. restrictions and was en route to China at the time of the operation.
Images released by the Pentagon showed U.S. personnel boarding the tanker, underscoring what officials describe as continued efforts to disrupt networks used to evade sanctions on Iran’s oil exports. Authorities allege the vessel has been involved in transporting millions of barrels of Iranian crude since 2023.
