Woman travelling home to family among MV Barima passengers

Shivanna La Cruz, a 32-year-old woman originally from White Water/White Creek, Region One, is among the passengers who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while on a voyage from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
Her cousin, Cristal, told BIG Smith News Watch that La Cruz has been living in Georgetown but was travelling to the North West District to visit her parents and siblings in her home village when the vessel encountered distress.
