Trini pathologist awaits approval for slain tour guide’s autopsy

A planned second autopsy on the remains of murdered tour guide Leon Baird has been placed on hold as the Medical Council of Guyana reviews an application from a Trinidadian pathologist.

An official from the council confirmed that the specialist, Dr. Hubert Daisley, will be notified once the review process is completed.

Daisley had previously sought short-term registration last year in connection with another high-profile case.

Baird’s relatives had arranged for the independent examination amid concerns about the initial findings.

Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh concluded that the 38-year-old died from burns.

However, family members believe a second autopsy could determine whether Baird sustained other life-threatening injuries before being set alight.

Baird, who worked at Wichabai Ranch in the South Rupununi, was last seen alive on January 23.

His badly burnt remains were discovered three days later inside a torched company vehicle.
