New Vehicle Tint Regulations Gazetted;

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has announced that the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Tint) Regulations 2026 were officially published in the Official Gazette on January 1, 2026, bringing the new vehicle tint standards into force.

To allow motorists sufficient time to comply, a three-month amnesty period has been granted. The amnesty, which runs until March 31, 2026, permits vehicle owners to regularise non-compliant tints without facing penalties.

During this period, motorists are encouraged to review the prescribed tint requirements and make the necessary adjustments to their vehicles. No fines or enforcement action will be taken in relation to tint violations while the amnesty remains in effect.

Full enforcement of the new regulations will begin on April 1, 2026. From that date, motorists found in breach of the tint standards will be liable to the penalties provided under the law.

The GPF is advising all drivers to familiarise themselves with the regulations and take advantage of the amnesty period to ensure compliance ahead of the enforcement deadline.
