GDF claims women’s Division One League

December 29 2025
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club has once again proven its supremacy in the realm of women’s football by securing the Women’s Division One League Cup with a professional 2-0 victory over the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Taking place at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Facility in Providence, this high-stakes final showcased the GDF’s tactical prowess and strong execution, adding yet another trophy to their already impressive haul this season.
This win completes a remarkable double for the army club, who previously claimed the league title with an unblemished record.
Initially dubbed a heavyweight clash, the final quickly turned in GDF’s favor, as Shenessa Cornelius took advantage of a defensive error to score the opener in the 12th minute.
The match was effectively put to bed when Glendy Lewis scored the second goal just four minutes after the second half commenced.
In a related matchup earlier in the evening, Santos narrowly secured third place, edging out Fruta Conquerors 1-0, with Gabriel Rivero’s goal proving decisive in the 12th minute.
