The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall erupted into a frenzy last night (November 12) as Guyana’s women’s basketball team unleashed an explosive offensive barrage from three-point land to utterly decimate The Bahamas 102-75 in a devastating opening statement at the FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship.

The performance was nothing short of spectacular, with the home crowd’s roaring energy fueling a dominant display that left no doubt about Guyana’s title credentials in this five-team championship battle.

The Ramlall sisters electrified Georgetown with a breathtaking scoring clinic, turning the court into their personal playground. Amisha Ramlall blazed through the Bahamian defense with a phenomenal 35-point explosion, while her sisters Arisha and Ashna added 13 and 12 points respectively in a dazzling family affair that had supporters on their feet.

Ruth Adams completed the devastating quartet with a commanding 22-point performance, showcasing the offensive firepower Guyana possesses. Despite valiant efforts from Bahamas’ Valerie Nesbitt, who desperately tried to keep her team alive with 35 points of her own, the home side’s relentless assault proved insurmountable.

Captain Joy Adams orchestrated the chaos with a near triple-double 12 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds while Ayana Mc David terrorized the glass with six rebounds in a masterclass of well-rounded basketball. Guyana stormed to a commanding 32-25 first-quarter lead, then unleashed their full arsenal in the third quarter, surging to a devastating 76-57 advantage that effectively ended all suspense.

With championship momentum building and confidence at fever pitch, Guyana eyes a monumental showdown against pre-tournament favorites the Virgin Islands, ready to announce their arrival as serious title contenders with tip off set for 20:30hrs tonight.
