President Ali will sign death warrant of Regent Street bomber if convicted of terrorism

Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, is prepared to sign off on the death penalty, which will see the putting to death of Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo if convicted for the crime of terrorism.

President Irfaan Ali, on Tuesday, without clearly stating his intentions, shared on his official Facebook page the clause in the Anti-Legislation Act, which states that

‘A person who commits a terrorist act commits man offence and shall on conviction on indictment be liable to be sentenced to death if such act has resulted in the death of any person”

This publication directly asked the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Oneidge Walrond, if she had the assurance and confidence that the president would sign off on the death of the terrorist.

“A young innocent child has been murdered, had this man been able to put the device in that bin more life would have been lost but one life, Guyanese life is still too much so yes I am absolute sure that our Commander in Chief and my president will sign off on that order” Minister Walrond said as she responded to the question from BIG Smith News Watch.

Guyana’s last state execution was done in August 1997, where Michael Archer and Peter Adams were hanged for the offence of Murder.

The Minister was at the time hosting a press conference flanked by heads and heads of departments within the State Security sector.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, Army Chief of Defence Omar Khan, National Security Advisor Gerry Gouevia, National Intelligence Chief Sheldon Howell, Deputy Commissioner and Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, Deputy Commissioners Simon McBean and Errol Watts, and head of the police Special Branch Prem Narine were the accompanying officials at the Press Conference on Tuesday evening.
