Kingston Seawall Comes Alive with Vibrant Two-Day Farmers’ Market

The Kingston Seawall Esplanade was transformed into a hub of colour, culture, and community spirit on Friday evening as the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, officially opened its much-anticipated two-day Farmers’ Market.

The event brought together dozens of local farmers, food producers, and artisans, all showcasing fresh, affordable, and locally grown produce — right by the sea.

From crisp vegetables and juicy fruits to homemade snacks and baked treats, the market offered something for everyone, highlighting the best of Guyana’s thriving agricultural sector.

Patrons, though noting the absence of meat and fish stalls as seen in previous editions, praised the event’s spacious layout and inviting atmosphere. Many described it as a refreshing shopping experience where high-quality produce was available at affordable prices.

Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha, Minister of Tourism Susan Rodrigues, First Lady Arya Ali, and President Dr. Irfaan Ali attended the event, mingling with vendors and shoppers as families enjoyed the cool evening breeze along the scenic waterfront.

The Farmers’ Market, which continues tomorrow from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., aims to promote access to affordable food while supporting local farmers and small producers. It forms part of the government’s wider effort to strengthen food security and local production in response to rising global food costs.

With lively music, friendly faces, and farm-fresh goods in abundance, the Kingston Seawall Farmers’ Market is shaping up to be a delightful celebration of local agriculture and community connection.
