Pomeroon Coconut Farmers Receive 3,000 Seedlings in Government Revitalization Effort

Coconut farmers in the Pomeroon region have received a significant boost with the distribution of 3,000 Brazilian Green Dwarf coconut seedlings by the Ministry of Agriculture.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to revitalize the coconut industry in Region Two.

Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, handed over the high-yielding seedlings to farmers in Charity, yesterday, marking phase one of the distribution plan.
A total of 7,000 seed nuts are expected to be distributed to farmers in both lower and upper Pomeroon.
“This intervention follows my visit to the area less than six months ago, where we announced plans to enhance both the quality and quantity of coconuts produced in the Pomeroon,” Minister Mustapha stated.

In addition to the seedlings, Minister Mustapha also distributed three coconut shredders to the farmers. These shredders, valued at $1,800 each, are aimed at minimizing wastage and reducing the dumping of coconut shells in the Pomeroon River.
The distribution of seedlings and shredders is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and productivity of coconut farming in the region, contributing to the overall development of the industry.
