Guyana Targets 1M Visitors, 3M Transiting Passengers by 2030

September 23, 2025 — Guyana has set an ambitious goal of attracting at least one million visitors and three million transiting passengers through its ports of entry by 2030, according to Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce,  Susan Rodrigues.

The Minister made the announcement during stakeholder engagement sessions on Monday with hoteliers, tour guides, and tour operators at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

Minister Rodrigues outlined several initiatives aimed at significantly boosting travel to Guyana. These include the development of a comprehensive calendar of activities featuring at least one major event per quarter, alongside intensified international marketing of “Destination Guyana.”

Acknowledging the importance of the diaspora market, she urged operators to design special rates and packages tailored to returning Guyanese. She also encouraged the rollout of Staycation packages to attract locals, particularly during the off-season.

Additionally, Rodrigues proposed a US$200 daily cap for Guyanese travellers, noting that while the benchmark would not be mandatory, it could be used in national marketing campaigns.

The Minister also disclosed plans for information centres at major ports of entry, which would provide travellers with immediate access to details on upcoming events and experiences.

“We have already started work on establishing a calendar of events, beginning in January 2026 and running right through to December. The idea is simple—if a person is coming to Guyana, they must know what is happening,” she said.

Rodrigues further called on stakeholders to collaborate in advancing Destination Guyana, pledging government support in tackling challenges such as high domestic travel costs and limited accessibility to some attractions.
