Businessman Remanded on Human Trafficking Charge

September 23, 2025 — A 49-year-old businessman from Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, has been charged with Trafficking in Person and remanded to prison.
The accused, Alvin Parag, who also resides in Alberttown, Georgetown, was arrested on September 19 and appeared today before Senior Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court.
Parag is alleged to have trafficked a 31-year-old Cuban woman between March 29 and June 7, 2025, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. He pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
The prosecutor strongly objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the allegation. Magistrate Latchman upheld the objection, ordering that Parag be remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned until October 6, 2025, for statements and disclosure.
The Guyana Police Force has reiterated its commitment to working with partners and stakeholders to combat all forms of human trafficking.
