Three-bedroom houses at Leonora 65% complete

February 27, 2026
Construction activities are ongoing at the Leonora/Groenveldt Housing Scheme in Region Three, where housing units are being built under the Government’s national housing programme.
Minister of Housing Collin Croal, along with Minister within the Ministry Vanessa Benn and Permanent Secretary Bishram Kuppen, recently visited the development to assess ongoing works and engage contractors.

They were accompanied by Senior Engineer Randolph Hunte and technical staff.
During the visit, Minister Croal said that 115 flat, three-bedroom concrete houses are currently under construction by a pool of 19 local contractors from Region Three, with the project approximately 65 per cent complete.

The houses measure 1,013 square feet and include living, kitchen and dining areas, one bathroom, and front and back patios.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the contractors and noted improvements in the quality of work. He encouraged them to maintain current standards and adhere to established timelines to ensure timely completion for allottees.
Minister Croal also highlighted that Region Three remains a key area in the Government’s wider housing drive to deliver 40,000 homes nationwide in the coming years.
In addition to the three-bedroom concrete houses, young professional homes and modular housing units are also being developed within the scheme.
He added that continued housing expansion along the West Coast of Demerara, along with large-scale development at Wales, is expected to generate employment, stimulate the construction sector, and increase access to homeownership for Guyanese families.
