On her first day as Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand visited the site of the long-delayed Bamia Primary School in Region Ten, signalling a no-nonsense approach to unfinished projects.

The school, under construction since November 2021 by St8tment Investment Inc., was initially expected to be completed earlier but has faced repeated delays caused by labour shortages, rising material costs, and poor weather. Despite several extensions, the project remains incomplete.

During the site visit, Manickchand set strict new timelines and warned that if contractors fail to deliver, the project will be reassigned.

By April this year, officials reported that only minor works remained, including electrical installations, lighting, and plumbing. The facility is now expected to be ready for the September 2025 academic year.

Once finished, Bamia Primary will become one of the most modern schools in Region Ten, boasting 44 classrooms, a gymnasium, auditorium, science lab, music room, library, smart classrooms, and upgraded restroom facilities.

The Linden community has been eagerly awaiting its completion, seeing the project as a transformative investment in the region’s education system.
