WIN Took APNU’s Support- VP Jagdeo

September 4, 2025 — The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) strengthened its position in Region Four during the General and Regional Elections of 2025.

This is according to Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo who stated that a political shift appears to have come from the emergence of the newly formed We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, which captured a significant share of votes traditionally held by A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).

Speaking at his weekly press conference today at Freedom House, he said, the PPP/C secured 87,536 votes in Region Four, an increase of 6,616 compared to the last election.

He pointed out that Region Four’s results not only reflected the PPP/C’s expanded support base but also highlighted how WIN shattered the decades-long dominance of the PNC-led APNU in the region and country.

APNU, which once commanded overwhelming loyalty in the country’s most populous region, saw its numbers collapse to 46,956 votes—a dramatic fall from the 116,941 votes it garnered in 2020. In stark contrast, WIN made a powerful debut with 41,607 votes, immediately positioning itself as the third-strongest force in the region.

The VP added that WIN’s entry offered a new option to voters who had grown disenchanted with APNU but were unwilling to switch their support to the PPP/C.

The party’s leader, businessman Azruddin Mohamed, has been credited with capitalizing on that sentiment at just the right time.

Speaking on APNU’s request to recount ballots in sub-district four, Dr Jagdeo dismissed the move as an attempt to “delay the inevitable.”
