GECOM denies WIN's improper vote recount request

September 04, 2025

The Guyana Elections Commission has denied a request by We Invest In Nationhood (WIN) for a recount of the votes cast in District 4.

GECOM denies WIN's improper vote recount request

The letter GECOM sent to WIN’s Candidate

Based on the number of votes cast for WIN as released by GECOM, the party secured the second-largest number of votes cast in its favor.

In a letter shared on Social Media Thursday afternoon, GECOM, in a letter addressed to Duarte Hetsberger, WIN’s election agent, noted the request for the recount.

The Commission refused to facilitate the recount request. In outlining the reason for the denial, GECOM noted that an Election Agent is not authorized to request a recount and, as such, regarded the request as null and void.

On Wednesday, WIN’s Presidential Candidate Azruddin Mohamed said that his party requested a recount based on what he called irregularities in the voting process and the fact that GECOM’s released numbers showed that the PPP won District 4.
