Security Guard Remanded to Prison For Fatally Stabbing Colleague

A 38-year-old security guard who allegedly stabbed his colleague to death at the Guyana National Museum has been remanded to prison.

Julian Anthony Lindore was on Tuesday brought before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where a charge of murder was formally laid against him.

He was not required to plead and will remain on remand until September 24, when the matter returns to court.

The charge follows the fatal stabbing of 57-year-old Shawn Lovell on Saturday night.

Dead: Shawn Lovell

Lovell, who lived at Campbellville Housing Scheme and was attached to Atlas Security Service, had ended his shift at 17:40h but returned to the museum compound shortly after to collect a mobile phone he reportedly left behind.

Investigators said an argument erupted after Lovell accused Lindore, who had just relieved him on duty, of stealing the device.

During the confrontation, Lindore allegedly pulled two knives from a haversack and attacked Lovell.

The victim sustained seven stab wounds — twice to the back, once to the right shoulder, and four to the right hand.

He attempted to escape but collapsed in a drain just outside the museum. Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police investigators later recovered three knives and a cutlass inside the guard hut.

Lindore was immediately arrested, cautioned, and subsequently gave police a video- and audio-recorded confession. Several persons were also interviewed as part of the investigation.

Lovell had been employed by Atlas Security Service for less than three weeks prior to the deadly altercation.

His sudden passing has left relatives in mourning, coming less than a year after the family buried their mother.
