Kitty Resident Sentenced to Two Years for Burglary

A 26-year-old Kitty, Georgetown man was recently sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for break and enter and larceny after pleading guilty to the charge.
The accused, Shaquille Mentore appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Annette Singh.
The charge alleged that Mentore on Sunday 24th of August at Bel Air Park, Georgetown, broke and entered the home of Luciana Oliveira and stole a computer valued $200,000, two backpacks valued $9,000 and $50,000 cash.
A Police officer told the court that the accused led them to the location where the articles were discovered and everything was recovered.
The prosecutor stated that on the day of the incident the victim was awakened by noise coming from the lower flat and checked her cameras and observed the accused leaving her front door and jumping her fence and escaping with the items.
The prosecutor said a report was made to the police by the victim, after which an investigation was launched.
The accused was located and arrested, admitted to the offence in an audio and video interview, and later led the police to Leopold Street, Georgetown, where the items were found.
The prosecutor went on to state that the accused served time in prison and was fined for a similar offence before.
Magistrate Singh asked Mentore why she should not give him the highest penalty possible, Mentore said that he was sorry for what he did.
In the end, Magistrate Singh sentenced Mentore to serve two years behind bars.
