August 20 2025
The government has commissioned a state-of-the-art secondary school valued at $930 million, providing modern educational facilities for 800 students.
The new institution houses 24 classrooms, a multi-purpose and cafeteria hall, a library and document centre, and several scientific and research centres. Its advanced facilities include fully equipped physics, chemistry, and biology laboratories, along with a TVET Centre for industrial and home economics training.
The pioneering design was developed and supervised by GR Engineering Company, with construction executed under six lots by contractors including S&K Construction (Foundations), Singh and Son Construction (Superstructure), Harry Chowtie Enterprise (Plumbing, Landscaping, and External Works), and K&S General Contractors (Electrical and Finishes).
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand noted that the facility is one of five new secondary schools under construction in Region Three, alongside Tuschen, West Minister, De Willem, Nemes, and Crane, as well as a dormitory at Leonora. She underscored that by September next year, every child across the country will be within reach of a sound secondary education.
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali described the new school as a revolutionary step in expanding access to quality education.
He emphasised that the project goes beyond providing a building, representing a long-term investment in teachers, opportunities, and modern learning systems.
The school will also function as a study and research hub for tertiary-level students in the region.
Nationwide, 42 secondary schools are being built, underscoring the government’s commitment to deliver world-class education that transforms communities and improves the quality of life for future generations.
