A 25-year-old security guard from Sophia, Kelvin Belgrave, was on Thursday remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of Pedro Alexander Frometa Slonchak, a 34-year-old Cuban national.

Dead: Pedro Alexander Frometa Slonchak

Belgrave appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was not required to plead to the charge. The matter was adjourned to September 17.

According to the prosecutor, the incident occurred on August 10, at the Real Value Supermarket, located at Church and Thomas Streets, Georgetown.

Belgrave, employed as a security guard at the supermarket, was armed with a service pistol when he confronted Slonchak, who allegedly entered the store multiple times and attempted to remove two price labels by hiding them under his shirt.

A scuffle reportedly ensued between the two men.

During the altercation, Belgrave allegedly disarmed Slonchak, who was armed with a knife, and stabbed him once in the right shoulder and once in the head.

He then fired six rounds from his firearm, striking the victim four times—once to the right side of his chest, twice to the left side of his abdomen, and once to his left knee.

Slonchak fell to the ground and was later pronounced dead.

Police investigations revealed that Belgrave had eight rounds of ammunition in his possession at the time and was employed with KGM Security Service.
