International Building Expo 2025 Officially Opens!

August 14 2025
The International Building Expo 2025 officially opened on Thursday, August 14, at Providence National Stadium, East Bank Demerara, under the theme “The Road to Success, Guyana 2030 and Beyond.” The four-day event, which runs until August 17, is expected to attract thousands of visitors and showcase the latest in construction technology, creative home improvement solutions, and innovative designs.
With approximately 400 booths, including exhibitors from India, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, and other nations, the expo is a major platform for partnerships between local and international players in the building and housing sectors. The “Dream Realised” housing initiative will take centre stage from August 15–17, highlighting government housing distribution efforts.
Opening day featured free admission between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., with regular fees of $500 for adults and children aged 12 and above applied from 9:01 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. From Friday to Sunday, gates will open from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Susan Rodrigues, noted that this is the fourth expo since she assumed office, crediting its growth largely to private sector involvement. She said the event offers unmatched opportunities to promote affordable building techniques, showcase progress made in the past five years, and facilitate access to home ownership. She highlighted that over 2,000 certificates of title have been issued, and more than 50,000 house lots distributed in that period, with investments in the housing sector aimed at creating wealth for Guyanese.
Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, described the expo as the “single most important platform” for the building sector, bringing together developers, engineers, and builders under one roof. He stressed the event’s role in advancing green building technologies and modern construction methods while fostering partnerships.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali commended the Ministry’s accomplishments, noting that the majority of house lots allocated in recent years went to persons under the age of 35. He outlined plans for the construction of 30,000 new homes over the next five years — averaging 16 homes per day — with $450 billion allocated to home construction alone. This is expected to generate 150,000 jobs in the construction sector, requiring the development of 20,000 acres of land.
Dr. Ali also pointed to an $870 billion investment pipeline for the next five years, measures to reduce mortgage interest rates for low-income families, and the removal of VAT from key construction materials. He urged international investors to establish manufacturing plants in Guyana to locally produce inputs like cement, steel, paint, and tiles.
The President praised the Ministry’s ability to deliver large-scale infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, and major housing developments, noting that these efforts are central to job creation and economic growth.
The expo continues through Sunday, offering what organisers describe as a “one-stop shop” for anyone interested in Guyana’s rapidly evolving building and construction landscape.
