Ranks of the Guyana Police Force conducted a large-scale cannabis eradication exercise at Yaruni Bend, Linden, Upper Demerara River, between 05:00 hrs and 14:10 hrs on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

During the operation, officers discovered two cannabis farms covering a combined area of approximately eight acres, containing an estimated 53,000 suspected cannabis plants ranging from two to six feet in height.

Further searches led to the discovery of two makeshift camps and five drying areas, where approximately 800 pounds of dried cannabis were found.

All suspected cannabis plants, dried marijuana, camps, and drying facilities were destroyed by fire. Authorities reported that the operation was carried out without incident, and no arrests were made.

Police estimate the street value of the destroyed narcotics at:

Cannabis plants: $17,956,400 GYD

Dried cannabis: $212,281,056 GYD

Total value destroyed: $344,542,640 GYD

Investigations into the illegal operation are ongoing.
