Two Gold Miners Charged with Murder of Riley Abrams

July 02, 2025: Two gold miners have been formally charged with the murder of Riley Abrams, who was fatally attacked on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Balamani Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.

The accused men, Rovel Santiago, 21, of Mabaruma, Region One, and Shawn Williams, 20, of Kuru Kururu Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, were arrested the same day of the incident. On Tuesday, July 1, they were jointly charged with murder.

The case was heard before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to the accused. They were not required to plead and were both remanded to prison until August 14, 2025, when the matter will continue.

A post-mortem examination conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh on June 30, 2025, confirmed the cause of death as “multiple incise wounds.”

Police investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack
