A river mishap just after midnight on Tuesday in the Pomeroon River, Region 2 has left one person dead and another warded at the Suddie Public Hospital.

Information reaching BIG Smith News Watch indicates that while in the vicinity of Grant Friendship Canal, Lower Pomeroon River, a wooden boat measuring some fifteen feet was being operated by 27 year old Dennon Lyte, a miner while 25 year Renny France of Friendship Canal was also inside.

We were told that the two who resided at the said address were heading home to Friendship Canal when the boat struck a tree, causing both of them to be flung from the boat, into the Pomeroon River, receiving injuries in the process.

The two were rescued by neighbors and taken to the district hospital where France was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty and Lyte examined and admitted a patient to the Suddie hospital.

A post-mortem is expected to be conducted on the remains of France whose body is laying at a funeral parlour in the region. It is unclear if the boat at the time of the incident any any form of lighting to guide it’s travel path during that hour of the morning.
