Sparendaam ‘Barrack Labourer’ in Custody for Kidnapping Teen

June 26 2025
A barrack labourer attached to the Sparendaam Police Station is in custody following allegations that he abducted a 13-year-old girl and kept her at his East Coast Demerara residence.
The man, a civilian worker at the station, allegedly held the teen against her will at a house for several days.
Reports indicate that the child was also assaulted during the period of her disappearance. Although the police have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, sources indicate that the incident is being treated as a potential case of abduction and abuse.
The teenager had been missing since June 18, and her disappearance sparked concern among family and community members. On Wednesday morning, she was spotted walking alone by a taxi driver at a location far from her home. He quickly contacted her family and, following their advice, transported her to the nearest police station.
Acting on the information provided by the teen, police ranks went to the location where the suspect was found. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
