Man Stabbed to Death at Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling

An unidentified man of African descent, was fatally stabbed on the evening of Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, West Coast Demerara.
A 22-year-old bowman from Wales, West Bank Demerara, is alleged to have stabbed the man during an altercation.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 18:00 hrs.
A 56-year-old security guard stationed at the Vreed-en-Hoop boat house told investigators that at approximately 18:10 hrs, he observed the victim exiting the stelling and sitting on a bench beneath a yellow stall, bleeding from both sides of his upper body. With the help of two other individuals, the injured man was transported by car to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives who responded to the report confirmed the man’s death at the hospital. A police examination revealed three stab wounds on the upper body of the victim.
His identity has not yet been confirmed, and the body was taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.
Acting on additional information, police located the suspect at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Visible injuries were observed on his upper left arm, side, and back. During questioning, the suspect alleged that the deceased had attempted to rob him of passenger fare and attacked him with a knife. He claimed he wrestled the knife away and stabbed the man in self-defense.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into custody at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
