A large quantity of suspected cannabis was seized by police during a stop-and-search operation along the Number 10 Public Road, West Coast Berbice, on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

The operation was carried out at approximately 07:20 hrs, when ranks intercepted a motor car occupied by two women.

According a police report, during a search of the vehicle, police discovered several brown salt bags and black garbage bags in the trunk.

The bags contained bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic, holding leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Both occupants were immediately arrested and escorted to the Fort Wellington Police Station. The suspected narcotics were weighed in their presence and amounted to 345.8 pounds before being lodged as evidence.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
