May 19, 2025 – Three men were remanded to prison today after appearing in separate courts across the country, each charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

At the Lenora Magistrate’s Court, Travon Chapelle appeared before Magistrate George, where he pleaded not guilty to being in possession of 1.034 kilograms of cannabis. Bail was denied, and Chapelle was remanded to prison until June 27, 2025.

Meanwhile, in Georgetown, Olrick Fingal stood before Magistrate Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. He is accused of possessing 3.810 kilograms of cannabis for trafficking. Fingal also pleaded not guilty, was denied bail, and was remanded until June 16, 2025.

In a third case, Elton D’Aguair appeared before Magistrate Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where he denied the charge of possessing 1.6 kilograms of cannabis for trafficking. He was remanded to prison until June 27, 2025.

D’Aguair’s case stems from a CANU operation conducted on May 16, 2025, at a residence in Tabatinga Housing Scheme, Lethem. Acting on intelligence, officers searched the property and discovered a parcel containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. The substance was later confirmed to be cannabis, weighing 1.6 kilograms.

D’Aguair was arrested at the scene and transported to the CANU Lethem Office along with the seized narcotic. Investigations are ongoing.
