Brazilian miner found dead at Middle Mazaruni

Police in Regional Division Seven have launched an investigation into the death of a Brazilian miner at Middle Mazaruni.
The deceased has been identified as Márcio Rocha, a 46-year-old Brazilian national.
According to a police report, the incident is reported to have occurred between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Seemang Backdam, Middle Mazaruni.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Rocha, who was reportedly suffering from a medical condition, was last seen alive around 6:00 a.m. at a mining camp in the area. At about midday, his lifeless body was discovered lying in a hammock at the camp, prompting a report to the police.
Ranks visited the scene and conducted an examination of the body, during which no marks of violence were observed.
The body was later escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead on arrival. His remains are currently at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police investigations are continuing.
