Republic Bank launches sixth annual school football league

Excitement is in the air as key stakeholders gathered at Republic Bank’s New Market Street headquarters on Thursday, October 9 to launch the highly anticipated Sixth Annual Republic Bank Under-18 Schools Football League kick off on October 19.
At the launch, the eight-team tournament was deemed as a crucial platform for local school teams, giving them a shot at qualifying for the prestigious International Goodwill Series.
Once again, Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited has joined forces with the Petra Organisation to create a dynamic and safe environment for young footballers to sharpen their skills and compete fiercely.
Republic Bank’s Internal Audit Manager, Oral Rose, celebrated the tournament’s expanding reach, highlighting its impact that stretches beyond Georgetown into various communities. He reaffirmed the bank’s unwavering commitment to investing in youth and opportunities, reinforcing that their partnership with the Petra Organisation is about empowering young dreamers to soar and embrace values that endure long after the final whistle.
During the launch, Nicholas Fraser, Head of the Allied Arts Unit, stressed the league’s vital role in discovering and fostering talent, ensuring that young athletes remain active year-round. Petra Organisation Co-Director Troy Mendonca echoed this passion, emphasizing the league’s importance in providing structure and long-term benefits for youth, both on and off the field.
This year’s exciting lineup features teams like Abram Zuil Secondary, Three Mile Secondary, Bush Lot Secondary, President’s College, Charlestown Secondary, West Ruimveldt Secondary, Dolphin Secondary, and the reigning champions, Chase’s Academic Foundation. Over seven thrilling weeks, the tournament will culminate in awards for the top four teams, as well as individual honors for Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, and Most Disciplined Team.
