Benn heads to Public Security; Kwame McCoy for ministerial post

Robeson Benn to head Public Security

Public Security Minister-designate; Robeson Benn

Former Minister of Public Works under the last Peoples Progressive Party Civic Government Robeson Benn has been identified as President Irfaan Ali’s pick to head the Ministry of Public Security.

Benn is also a representative of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic as a commissioner on the Guyana Elections Commission.

President Ali will later this afternoon swear in his Cabinet Ministers and in addition to Robeson Benn, a number of other names have been touted to head some key ministries.

Among them, Vickram Bharrat, Joseph Hamilton, Dr. Fran Anthony, Nigel Dharamlall, Kwame McCoy, Priya Manickchand, and Juan Edghill.

According to information reaching BIG Smith News Watch, Edghill is expected to be Minister of Public Infrastructure. In the last PPP administration, he served as Minister within the Ministry of Finance.

Dr. Frank Anthony is slated to head the Ministry of Public Health. Anthony served as Minister of Youth Sports and Culture in the last PPP Government.

Nigel Dharamlall is also slated to take up a ministerial post after his swearing-in this afternoon. He served in the capacity of Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Indigenous Peoples Affairs and Local Government in the past.

Joseph Hamilton according to our information would be appointed Minister of Labour and Social Cohesion.

It is unclear which Ministries Priya Manickchand, Kwame McCoy, and Vickram would be heading.

The official appointment to these cabinet positions are slated to be done at 15:00hrs today at the Arthur Chung Convention Center.
