April 10 2025— In a major announcement moments ago, President Dr. Irfaan Ali revealed that the Government of Guyana will inject $10 billion into a one-off payment initiative aimed at providing financial relief to senior citizens.

The measure targets pensioners based on their National Insurance Scheme (NIS) contribution history. The breakdown of payments is as follows:

Pensioners with 500 to 549 NIS contributions will receive a one-off payment of $260,000.

Those with 550 to 599 contributions will receive $390,000.

Pensioners with 600 to 699 contributions will be granted $520,000.

Those with 700 to 749 contributions will benefit from a $650,000 payout.

President Ali described the initiative as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to support the elderly population and ensure that their contributions to society are acknowledged and valued.
