April 9 2025–  Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, on Tuesday joined First Lady Arya Ali for a visit to the May 26 Nursery School in Melanie as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and upgrade the school’s play area.

The visit aimed to assess the scope of work required and engage directly with the headteacher and staff on the project’s implementation. The rehabilitation initiative is a collaborative effort between the Office of the First Lady and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), with a projected cost of $38.5 million.

The project will be executed in two phases, which include preparatory work for the play area, landfilling, curb construction, and the building of a traditional benab for children’s recreational use.

Member of Parliament Hon. Suresh Singh, a senior engineer from the CH&PA, and several community representatives were also part of the engagement.

This latest initiative follows previous visits to the school in January by President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Minister Rodrigues, during which commitments were made to enhance the facility and improve conditions for students.
