March 21, 2025 – Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, and Wilmot Garnett, Country Representative of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Guyana’s agricultural sector during a special ceremony today.

The event highlighted the ongoing collaboration between IICA and the government to drive innovation, sustainability, and resilience in agriculture.

Minister Mustapha acknowledged IICA’s critical role in Guyana’s agricultural development, emphasizing its contributions to technical assistance, sustainable farming practices, and innovation.

Over the years, IICA has supported key government initiatives to improve crop production, enhance food security, and strengthen rural livelihoods through partnerships with local stakeholders.

The Ministry of Agriculture continues to focus on capacity-building for farmers, improving market access, and promoting climate-smart agriculture to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Minister Mustapha expressed gratitude for IICA’s ongoing support, noting that the partnership remains essential in achieving a sustainable and modernized agricultural sector in Guyana.
