Taxi Driver Remanded for Attempting to Murder Wife

November 15 2024 – A 60-year-old taxi driver from Georgetown, Keith Williams, has been remanded to prison on an attempted murder charge after a violent attack on his 74-year-old common-law wife, Deanna Bourne.

Williams, who appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty in Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, is accused of maliciously wounding Bourne with the intent to kill.

Due to the indictable nature of the charge, he was not required to enter a plea.

The incident occurred on November 10, 2024, at the couple’s shared home on El Dorado Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, marking a tragic turn in the couple’s 42-year relationship.

According to police reports, the conflict began when Williams arrived home but was initially refused entry by Bourne. After a delay, their granddaughter opened the door, allowing him inside.

Williams reportedly went directly to Bourne’s bedroom, woke her, and an argument ensued. Shortly afterward, he left the room, retrieved a cutlass from his vehicle, and launched a brutal attack on Bourne, inflicting multiple severe wounds to her face and body.

Witnesses recounted that after the assault, Williams attempted to flee the scene but was restrained by bystanders while still holding the weapon.

Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported Bourne to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where she underwent emergency surgery.

Due to the extent of her injuries, including one to her face, Bourne remains in critical condition and has been left unable to speak.

During police questioning, Williams reportedly admitted to the assault, claiming he had been under the influence of marijuana at the time.

He remains in jail, with his next court appearance scheduled for December 18, 2024.
