Dave Martins, the iconic leader of the Tradewinds Band, has passed away.

Known for his profound patriotism and musical talent, Martins was celebrated for his timeless songs “Not a Blade of Grass” and “Is We Own,” among others, which resonated deeply with Guyanese and Caribbean audiences.

President Irfaan Ali paid tribute to Martins in a message on social media, highlighting the cultural impact of his music.

His music was the heartbeat of our region, President Ali stated. His music encouraged us to stand tall and be proud of our Guyanese and Caribbean heritage. ‘Not a Blade of Grass,’ his timeless anthem, stands as a powerful statement to our nation’s collective resistance against threats to our sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from across the nation, with many expressing deep sadness at the loss of such an influential figure.

Despite his passing, Dave Martins’ legacy and music will continue to inspire future generations.

The management and staff of BIG Smith News Watch extend their deepest sympathies to Martins’ family during this time of grief.
