Detectives in Regional Division 4’A’ are investigating the alleged murder of a 28-year-old man identified as Shawn, from Grove, East Bank Demerara.

The incident occurred around 2:00 AM today at the intersection of King Street and South Road, Georgetown.

Initial enquiries revealed that the victim, who is reportedly a sex worker, was standing with a 26-year-old male from West La Penitence Housing Scheme.

A heavily-tinted silver-colored Premio motorcar approached from the south on Croal Street, and multiple gunshots were heard from the vehicle.

As a result, Shawn and his companion ran east onto South Road. Shawn collapsed shortly thereafter, while the car continued north on King Street and fled the scene.

Police responded to the scene and discovered Shawn face-down in a pool of blood. The victim was wearing a black dress, a black shower cap, and black socks.

Dr. Harry Kissoon from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) pronounced Shawn dead at the scene.

Crime scene investigators found what appeared to be a gunshot wound under the victim’s right arm. Nine 9mm spent shells were recovered from the scene.

The body has been transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
